Dr Stirling Carlsen

Dr Carlsen graduated with Honours in Medicine from the University of Newcastle in 1998. He subsequently completed his FRACP in Cardiology at the Flinders Medical Centre and in December 2009 completed his Fellowship in Clinical Echocardiography. During his Fellowship, Dr Carlsen performed over 500 trans-oesophageal echocardiograms and approximately 2000 stress echocardiograms (both exercise and dobutamine). In addition to these he has also been involved with providing intra-operative TOE guidance for valve replacements, PFO and ASD closures and TAVR's.

Dr Carlsen's additional interests include the use of contrast echocardiography for better assessment of ejection fraction, wall motion abnormalities and LV thrombus in those patients with poor image quality and 3D TOE assessment of mitral valve pathology. Dr Carlsen consults at John Flynn Hospital, Tugun, Pindara Private Hospital, Benowa and Ballina Day Surgery, Ballina.

In addition, Dr Carlsen provides echocardiography and stress echocardiography services at Tugun, Benowa and Ballina.
